Women’s Basketball Wrestles Wayland Baptist, Panhandle State to Open 2026 Play

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Basketball team returns to action after three weeks off for Christmas Break by playing host to Wayland Baptist on Thursday evening tipping off at 6 p.m. The Evangels will follow up with Oklahoma Panhandle State at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

    • Mid-America Christian lost two consecutive games to end the 2025 calendar year including its first loss inside the Gaulke to Science & Arts on Dec. 16 in a tightly contested 69-66 affair. The Evangels are in the midst of a four-game home stand where they host Wayland Baptist in efforts to return to winning ways.  
    • Junior forward Caitlynn Jordan leads the Evangels in scoring and rebounding averaging 13.9 ppg and eight rebounds. Her eight rebounds a game sits top three in SAC standings. Jordan scored a team-high 17 points in the loss to the Drovers last time out.
    • Mia Smith and Monique Carter are the leading passers for the Evangels with both averaging just under four assists per game with 49 and 45 total. Both tallies see Smith and Carter top four in SAC leaders for assists.
    • MACU continues to show offensive power ranking top three in the Sooner in shooting categories averaging 42% from the field, and averaging 8.5 3pt made off a 34% average shooting clip. Even with the impressive offensive statistics, the Evangels have prided themselves defensively with a conference high in forced turnovers at 22, and second most steals per game averaging 11.7.
    • Despite the consecutive losses to close 2025, Mid-America Christian still received 118 votes in the latest NAIA polls to rank them 23rd in the nation. The Evangels sit joint third at 5-2 in the SAC standings, just one game back from the top spot held by Nelson and Science & Arts.

    • Wayland Baptist have found some form as of late by making big improvements in shooting percentages since entering conference play. The 36% 3pt percentage in conference play is the second-best mark in the SAC. The Flying Queens average the second fewest turnovers at 14.5 and have the highest offensive efficiency rating in the conference.
    • Wayland holds a substantial all-time record against MACU at 28-8. The Flying Queens won both regular season matchups by two points a season ago, but the Evangels got the better of them in the conference semifinals in a dominant 97-67 win to book their spot into the conference championship game.

    • However, Panhandle State has been dominant on the glass this season showing a strong rebounding presence by winning the rebounding margin. The Aggies are a top three conference offensive rebounding team at 12.5 a game.
    • MACU has continued its dominance over OPSU by winning both regular season meetings between the two schools. The Evangels are 13-1 all-time and have won 13 consecutive matchups.
