No. 19 Baseball Flies Past Falcons 6-3 in Final Tune Up Before SAC Play

WICHITA, Kan. – No. 19 MACU Baseball won its eighth consecutive game on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-3 victory at Friends in the Evangels final game before heading into Sooner Athletic Conference play against Southwestern Christian this weekend.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Jalen King registered the first hit of the contest in the top of the first after a double to left field to get the first Evangel runner on. Frankie Giacalone singled to left field, bringing in the opening run as King scored from second.
  • In the top of the second inning, Tuane Cope hit a lead off double. Elijah Lee walked with two outs, but the third out came at the next better, leaving two Evangels on base.
  • With one out in the top of the third, Nick Hill and Giacalone singled up the middle to quickly put two on the bases. They both advanced bases on a throwing error, followed by consecutive RBI singles from Cope and Cole Krepcik to score both Hill and Giacalone for a 3-0 MACU advantage.
  • A pair of walks got two Falcons on base in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, Carlos Uribe forced a fly out and a ground out to get out of the inning, leaving them both on base.
  • The Evangels added a fourth run in the top of the fifth from Adam Hanan's solo home run. Krepcik and Jahzeel Groetelaers hit consecutive singles to put runners on first and second. Elijah Lee singled through the right field gap, but Krepcik was tagged out at home plate for the third out of the inning.
  • Friends recorded its first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. A single with two errors advanced the runner to third, as the Falcons scored that run from a wild pitch. Three consecutive singles to follow loaded the bases quickly for the Falcons. A single to center field brought home the second run and forced a pitcher change from MACU. A single to left field scored a third Falcons' run, but Andrws Acosta forced consecutive popups with the bases loaded and get out of the inning still preserving the Evangels' lead at 4-3.
  • The Evangels responded quickly in the top of the seventh as Hanan hit a lead off single. Cope doubled to right field to quickly get two runners in scoring position. Groetelaers laid down the perfect bunt, staying safe at first base while scoring the fifth run as Julio Felix beat the tag at home while pinch running for Hanan.
  • In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Falcons quickly loaded the bags with one out. Liam Taft took over on the mound, striking out his first batter for the second out, then forced a fly out to King at center field to get out of the bases loaded jam and maintain a 5-3 lead.
  • Julio Felix singled to left field for the lead off runner in the top of the ninth, followed by Cope forcing the walk for two quick runners. Josh Rodriguez advanced the runners, to free up Groetelaers sacrifice bunt to score Felix for a 6-3 win.
  • Liam Taft gave up just one single in the bottom of the ninth, retiring the final two Falcons' batters.
GAME NOTES
  • Although MACU only scored six runs, the Evangels recorded a season-high 18 hits, while holding Friends to three runs off seven hits.
  • Carlos Uribe pitched a no-hitter first five innings, before conceding four hits and three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Uribe struck out one batter and walked just one. Liam Taft came in to pitch the final five outs, striking out three batters while giving up just one hit for Taft's fourth save of the season.
  • Tuane Cope led batting with a perfect 4-4 with one walk and batting a run in. Adam Hanan had the only home run of the game, his first of the season, batting 2-4 for the game. Jahzeel Groetelaers led the Evangels with two RBIs with two hits on four at bats.
