Women’s Basketball Heads to Panhandle State, Wayland Baptist for Final Week of Regular Season

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Basketball team hits the road for the final week of the regular season headed to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday night tipping off at 6 p.m. in Goodwell, Okla. The Evangels turn around and drive to Plainview, Texas for Saturday afternoon's clash against Wayland Baptist for the final regular season contest.

    • Mid-America Christian suffered a narrow loss on the road against Nelson last Thursday night. However, the Evangels bounced back with a dominant win on Senior Day against Texas Wesleyan last Saturday afternoon, seeing a 23-point and career-high seven-assist outing from Senior Talayah Thomas.  
    • Junior forward Caitlynn Jordan leads the Evangels in scoring and rebounding averaging 13.8 points per game, while Jordan and Taliah Lee ranks top five in the SAC with 7.6 and 7.2 rebounds per game.
    • Taliah Lee is the conference's leading blocker with 47 on the season, 14 more than second place. Jordan is also top five in the SAC with 27 blocks. The Evangels also force an influx of steals led by Sincere Roberts with 50, followed by Lee with 45.  
    • MACU continues to rank top three in offensive statistics averaging over 70 points per game on 41.5% from the field and a conference best 34.7% from behind the arc. The Evangels have also increased their 3-pt shooting averaging 8.7 made per game.
    • The Evangels continue to rally on the defensive end holding opponents to just 57 points allowed in conference play, a second lowest mark. MACU also blocks the most shots at just under four a game, while averaging 10 steals a game. Last time out, the Evangels held the Rams to just 45 points on 25% shooting from the field, conceding just two points in the fourth quarter.

    • Oklahoma Panhandle State enters the final week of the regular season with a 3-17 conference record, losing a pair on the road this past weekend in Oklahoma City. The Aggies suffered a 60-47 loss to Southwestern Christian on Thursday night, followed by a 54-44 loss on Saturday afternoon to Oklahoma City.
    • The Aggies are led offensively by a pair of freshmen in Tryssa Dowd and Mar'Kia Pratt. Dowd averages a team-high 12.3 points per game and 6.5 rebounds. Pratt is the leading passer with 55 assists on the season.    
    • OPSU has really struggled offensively conference play, averaging a conference-low 51 points per game, on 35% from the field, and 24% from 3-pt land. However, defensively, the Aggies allow just 65 points against with two blocks and eight steals averaged a game.
    • Mid-America Christian holds a 14-1 all-time record against Oklahoma Panhandle State, including 14 consecutive and the first meeting between the teams on Jan. 10 at the Gaulke. Aniya Smith had a game-high 14 points off the bench for MACU, while Tryssa Dowd led the Aggies with 11 points and five boards.

    • WBU sits middle of the pack in most offensive statistical categories, averaging 67 points per game on 40% shooting from the field and a top three 32% from range.
    • Wayland Baptist holds an all-time record at 28-9 against MACU dating back to 2007. However, the Evangels have two in a row, including the first meeting on Jan. 8 inside the Gaulke in a 77-65 game. Peyton North had a game-high 26 points on seven made threes for the Flying Queens. Taliah Lee's 14 points and 13 rebounds led the Evangels in the win.
