Women’s Basketball Set for SAC Tournament Opener Against Wayland Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Basketball team notched a 17-5 regular season conference mark to garner the No. 2 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Presented by Athletic Solutions. The Evangels will rematch against Wayland Baptist on Thursday evening tipping off at 5:30 p.m. inside the Abe Lemons Arena.

    • Mid-America Christian ended the regular season with a 2-0 trip out West with a commanding win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday night, followed by a wild two-point win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Evangels finished with a 17-5 SAC regular season record, earning the two seed in the SAC Tournament.
    • Junior forward Caitlynn Jordan leads the Evangels in scoring and rebounding averaging 13.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Jordan ranks top five in the conference in rebounds and blocks with 28 on the season.
    • Taliah Lee has really heat up from behind the arc as she is up to 39.3% on the season to rank top five in the SAC, including a 5-7 3FG outing against Wayland last Saturday afternoon. Lee has also garnered three SAC Defensive Player of the Week awards throughout the regular season, highlighted by a conference-high 49 blocks.
    • Mia Smith finished the regular season with 100 total assists. Smith's last game against Wayland, she recorded a new MACU Women's Basketball Program record 14 assists, surpassing the previous record of 12. Mia Smith's 100 assist mark also sees her top five amongst the SAC.
    • MACU continues to rank top three in offensive statistics averaging over 70 points per game on 41.5% from the field and a conference best 34.7% from behind the arc. The Evangels have also increased their 3-pt shooting averaging 8.7 made per game. MACU has tremendously improved its ball handling, lowering its turnovers per game to a conference-low 14 a game.
    • The Evangels continue to rally on the defensive end, holding opponents to just 58 points allowed in conference play, a second lowest mark. MACU also blocks the most shots at just under four a game, while averaging 10 steals a game.

Mitchell also leads the SAC with 139 assists: 34 more than second place. Mitchell received the SAC Offensive Player of the Week after a 20-11-11 triple double in the Flying Queens win over the Drovers on Thursday night. She followed it up with a 22-8-8 outing against MACU.
    • WBU sits middle of the pack in most offensive statistical categories, averaging 65 points per game on 38% shooting from the field and a top three 32% from range.
    • Wayland Baptist holds an all-time record at 28-10. However, the Evangels defeated the Flying Queens in three consecutive matches.
