Softball Drops 2-0, 7-1 Doubleheader at Texas Wesleyan to Open SAC Play

FORT WORTH, Texas – The MACU Softball team struggled to get the bats going in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener at Sycamore Park on Friday afternoon as the Evangels dropped both games of the doubleheader by scores of 2-0 and 7-1.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian looked to open strong in the top of the first as two of the first three batters reached on singles off the bats of Serena Rodriguez and Dakota Watson to put runners first and second with one out, but Rams pitcher Kylie Barnes struck out the next two MACU batters to get out of the jam.
  • The Evangels navigated their way out of trouble in the bottom half of the first when TXWES leadoff hitter Haylie Delarosa reached on an error by the second baseman and got down to third on a sac bunt and a groundout to short. Freshman starting pitcher Emmerson Dickinson struck out cleanup hitter Kylie Barnes to get out of the jam.
  • The Rams once again managed to get a runner away from home at third following a one-out single a Christina Jackson single to center and EB Zimmerman reaching on an error to put runners at first and second. However, after a fielder's choice grounder got Jackson to third, Dickinson struck out Kadynce Crenshaw to once again keep Texas Wesleyan off the board.
  • Texas Wesleyan came through with the first run in the bottom of the third as Rachet Houston's one-out single and steal of second set up Payton Blanco with the RBI single to center to make it a 1-0 game.
  • The Rams capitalized on a pair of MACU errors and a Jacey Power single to left to load the bases as Crenshaw's base knock to left extended the lead to 2-0. However, MACU managed to limit the damage as Dickinson got Delarosa to ground into a 1-2-3 double play before Houston lined out to second to end the frame.
  • The Evangels were unable to muster a threat the rest of the way as the next nine MACU batters went down in-order to wrap-up the 2-0 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Texas Wesleyan scored its two runs on six hits while the Evangels finished with three hits and four errors.
  • Despite suffering her fourth loss of the season in the circle, MACU starting pitcher Emmerson Dickinson pitched well for the Evangels, allowing only two runs, one earned on six hits with no walks and struck out four.
  • The Evangels three knocks were singles off the bats of Serena Rodriguez, Dakota Watson, and Jorjanna King, who all finished 1-for-3 while two of those hits came in the first inning.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian looked to get things going in the top of the first when Kayten Herman hit a one-out double to left, but she was unfortunately caught stealing to end the MACU threat.
  • The Rams quickly got things in their half of the first as back-to-back singles by Haley Delarosa and Rachet Houston to go along with a MACU error put both in scoring position before Payton Blanco stayed hot with a two-RBI single to the left-center gap made it a 2-0 Rams advantage.
  • TXWES added two more runs in the bottom of the third as another MACU error and Arieanna Hernandez base hit set up Ally Hinojosa with the two-RBI double down the left field line to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
  • The Rams continued to pull away in the bottom of the fourth scoring two more on RBI singles off the bats of Rachet Houston and Kylie Barnes, setting the score to 6-0.
  • The Evangels finally put a dent in TXWES's lead in the top of the sixth when Saina Willis drew a leadoff walk and eventually got to third on a Dakota Watson sac bunt and a Kayten Herman single to center before scoring on Kiley Flores' RBI groundout to second to make it 6-1.
  • However, the Rams got the run back in their half of the sixth on Blanco's RBI base knock to center to make it 7-1.
GAME NOTES
  • Texas Wesleyan pushed across its seven runs on 13 hits and committed an error while the Evangels scored their one run on four hits and made two defensive miscues.
  • Kayten Herman led the MACU batting efforts, reaching base three times as she slashed 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.
  • Heidi Noisey added a hit to finish 1-for-2 while Nyssa Dunn came up with MACU's other base knock to finish 1-for-3.
  • Saina Willis scored her first career MACU run while Kiley Flores came up with the lone RBI.
