No. 19 Baseball Splits 2-2 at the Cajun Collision

STERLINGTON, LA. – No. 19 MACU baseball splits 2-2 over this weekend's games in Sterlington, La. after dropping a pair on Friday, the Evangels rallied back Saturday with two wins competing in the Cajun Collision.

GAME SUMMARY
  • The first action came in the second inning as MACU gave away free bases with hit by pitches and two walks. The Pirates scored three in the second off two hits. However, Andrws Acosta got a big strikeout to end the inning and get out of a big hole as the Pirates leave three on the bases.
  • Park tacked on two more runs in the top of the third from a home run, followed by an unearned run off an Evangel error.
  • Conner Thompson opened the MACU scoring in the bottom of the third with a solo shot. Jalen King scored a second run off a passed ball.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Evangels scored a third run from an RBI single from Sammy Hallada as Julio Felix scored.
  • The Pirates responded in the top of the fifth with an RBI double to lead 7-3.
  • Park rallied off consecutive RBI singles in the top of the sixth with one out. The Evangels got out of another bases loaded hole to keep it at 9-3.
  • Once again, the Pirates hit the scoreboard with three more runs in the top of the seventh from a ground out, followed by a two RBI single to bring in two more.
  • The Evangels stormed back in the bottom of the seventh with the game on the line loading the bases quickly with zero outs. MACU batted in five singles scoring runs and were walked twice to score seven runs. However, the comeback came up just short losing 12-10.
GAME NOTES
  • The Pirates scored their 12 runs off nine hits, while the Evangels matched their nine hits, but fell short with 10 runs.
  • Andrws Acosta pitched 4.1 innings conceding seven runs on four hits. However, he struck out 10 batters giving up five walks and two hit batters.
  • Sammy Hallada and Jalen King both chipped in two hit games, while Hallada batted in two runs. Conner Thompson also finished with two RBIs and had the lone Evangel home run.
  • Park extended its all-time record against MACU to 5-1.

GAME SUMMARY
  • The Evangels struck first in the top of the opening inning as Jalen King's double advanced Sammy Hallada to third. Then Nick Hill's sacrifice fly brought in Hallada for the opening run.
  • LSU Shreveport equalized right away in the bottom of the first stealing home plate.
  • The Pilots jumped in front in the bottom of the second from an RBI single bringing in the leading run.
  • The Evangels rallied in the top of the third as Hill doubled down the right line bringing in Hallada for the tying run. A wild pitch brought in King, then Hill right after from Frankie Giacalone's double to left field to give MACU a 4-2 lead.
  • Elijah Lee scored the fifth MACU run in the top of the fourth off a throwing error from the Pilots.
  • The MACU defense held on until the final inning as LSUS scored two from a single up the middle. A triple brought around two more Pilot runs to walk it off 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh.
GAME NOTES
  • The Evangels out-hit the Pilots scoring their five runs in nine hits to LSUS' eight hits.
  • Fabian Hernandez pitched a brilliant six innings before giving up the final four runs in the seventh inning. Hernandez still struck out eight batters, giving up only two walks.
  • Sammy Hallada was the leading hitter with three hits from four at bats. Hallada scored two runs. Nick Hill brought in two RBIs with one hit himself.
  • LSU Shreveport have beaten MACU four consecutive games, extending the all-time record to 4-1 all-time.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Central Baptist got the bats rolling early with two hits in the top of the first. However, the Evangels get out of the inning, leaving two Mustangs on base.
  • The Evangels hit the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second as Jalen King singled to right center, bringing in a pair of runs in Dyson Kinnaman and Adam Hanan.
  • CBC responded in the third with a deep homer down the left side.
  • MACU bounced right back in the bottom of the third from a sacrifice fly from Adam Hanan that scored Frankie Giacalone and advanced the runners to second and third. Jahzeel Groetelaers grounded out to shortstop but brought in Julio Felix for the fourth Evangel run.
  • The Mustangs got one back in the top of the fourth with a double down the left field scoring a run from third. MACU got out of the inning conceding just one, leaving a Mustang runner on third.
  • In the fifth inning, the Evangels scored three runs sparked first from a fly out RBI from Jesse Ortega. Jalen King singled up the middle to bring in the sixth run, followed by Hallada reaching home off a throwing error to give MACU a 7-2 lead.
  • Ned Ceklic singled to left field to bring in Tuane Cope to score the eighth and final MACU run in the bottom of the sixth.
GAME NOTES
  • The Evangels and Mustangs were level with eight hits apiece but MACU was able to turn it into eight runs as CBC settled for two.
  • Sammy Hallada and Jalen King both had two-hit games as Hallada scored a run, and King batted in three runs.
  • Ibrahim Gonzalez came in and pitched two innings and recorded the win, conceding just one hit and striking out three batters.
  • Mid-America Christian extended its all-time record against Central Baptist to 18-8, winning three consecutive games against the Mustangs.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian heads North for one midweek game against Sterling on Tuesday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. The Evangels will follow up with their first home series of the season by hosting Peru State on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
