Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Central Christian 81-42

MCPHERSON, KAN. – The MACU Women's Basketball team were in full control from the opening tipoff in the Evangels' bounce back 81-42 win over Central Christian on Saturday afternoon in McPherson, Kansas.

TOP PERFORMERS GAME SUMMARY
  • First Quarter
    • The Tigers jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the opening two minutes before Caitlynn Jordan connected from range. However, Central stayed on the front foot with another triple to lead 7-3 after four minutes.
    • The Evangels rattled off 13 consecutive points in just four minutes to blow the first quarter wide open. Talayah Thomas splashed in for three, followed by Allie Harris for three from the corner to give MACU a 16-7 advantage.
    • Sincere Roberts added one more from the line as both teams went scoreless over the last two minutes and the Evangels led 19-10 after the opening 10 minutes.
  • Second Quarter
    • Central Christian sparked the offense to start the second quarter closing the gap to just four at 21-17 two and a half minutes in.
    • MACU responded with 10 straight as Harris hit another triple and Mia Smith added three of her own from deep. The Evangels closed the quarter on a 14-2 run over the final seven minutes to lead 35-19 at halftime. Harris led the way with her third three and 11 first half points.
  • Third Quarter
    • The Evangels battled and traded buckets with the Tigers in the opening four minutes of the quarter. Mia Smith added her second triple during the stretch as MACU led 48-25 at the halfway point.
    • Harris connected with her fourth triple as MACU grew its lead to 30. The Evangels racked up points from the free throw line to close out the quarter. Monique Carter and Aniya Smith both converted a pair, and MACU led 59-32 going into the final quarter.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Talayah Thomas had the offense rolling for the Evangels with five quick points as well as a perfect pass to Jordan for seven straight points.
    • Mia Smith continued her recent good run of form adding a third triple but was later outdone by Harris who canned a fifth from range as MACU's lead extended to 73-42 with two minutes left.
    • Allie Harris continued her career night with yet another triple, followed by a bucket at the rim for 23 points to close out an 81-42 victory over Central Christian.
 
GAME NOTES
  • MACU shot 28-67 (41.8%) from the field, 12-34 (35.3%) from 3-pt, and 13-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line. The Tigers finished 15-67 (22.4%) from the field, a season-low 3-29 (10.3%) from behind the arc, and 9-12 (75.0%) from the stripe.
  • The Evangels had four players score double-digit points as Allie Harris led the way with a career-high 23 points shooting 6-8 from 3-pt. Caitlynn Jordan added 16 points off 6-14 from the field. Talayah Thomas chipped in another 12 and Mia Smith scored 10 points with 3-6 from deep.
  • Caitlynn Jordan grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, followed by Talayah Thomas who snagged seven. The Evangels had the offense rolling with 14 assists led by Thomas, Mia Smith, and Monique Carter who all dished out three assists.  
  • Mid-America Christian improved to 14-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Evangels remain one game back of second place Nelson, who they meet on Thursday night in Waxahachie, Texas.
  • MACU extended its all-time record against Central Christian to 26-2, winning 24 consecutive games against the Tigers.
