GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian jumped out to an early lead against OPSU ace Marin Jacobs in the bottom of the first. After Taylor Martinez hammered a leadoff triple to the right-center field wall, Mia Macias brought her in two batters later with an RBI single to left. Two batters later, Kayten Herman blasted an RBI double off the left-center field wall that scored Macias from first to make it a 2-0 MACU lead.
  • In the third, the Evangels added a crucial insurance run. Following Serena Rodriguez's one-out double to the left-center field gap, she came up with a massive steal of third base. That stolen bag proved to be of great importance as she came around to score on Heidi Noisey's infield single to the shortstop in the hole, making it a 3-0 contest.
  • MACU starting pitcher Emmerson Dickinson ran into some big-time trouble in the top of the fifth when the first two batters reached on back-to-back singles off the bats of Haeley Vasquez and Gracie Lankford. While it appeared as though she might be able to get out of the jam after inducing a 5-3 double play, the Aggies slapped three consecutive singles from Reighley Wilkerson, Summer Marron, and Aliyah Dang-Gutierrez to cut the MACU lead down to 3-2.
  • The Aggies threatened to score the tying run in the top of the sixth when Jacobs slapped a leadoff single to right and stole second with no outs. However, Dickinson left her stranded by inducing three consecutive groundouts to Martinez at short to keep the lead intact.
  • OPSU was unable to threaten the rest of the way as MACU came away with the 3-2 win.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its three runs on seven hits while Oklahoma Panhandle State notched its two runs on eight hits.
  • The power bats played the biggest factor in the outcome as three of MACU's seven base knocks went for extra bases on two doubles and a triple while all eight of OPSU's hits were singles.
  • Emmerson Dickinson improved to 10-9 in the circle, allowing only two earned runs on eight hits with one walk and tallied five strikeouts.
  • Serena Rodriguez was the lone Evangel to finish with multiple hits, slashing 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
  • Mia Macias, Heidi Noisey, and Kayten Herman notched MACU's RBIs, as Macias finished 1-for-3 with a run, Noisey also went 1-for-3, and Herman finished 1-for-2 with a double and reached on a hit-by-pitch.
  • Taylor Martinez scored MACU's other run after wrapping up 1-for-3 with her fourth triple of the season, moving her into a tie for the seventh-most in the Evangels' NAIA Era (2008-present) single season record book.
  • The victory improved MACU to 6-4 in games decided by a single run.

  • Loss: Jordan Johnson (2-15)
TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian scored the first run of the contest by taking advantage of a major Aggies miscue. After Kiley Flores reached on a fielder's choice, she ended up coming around to score from first on Nyssa Dunn's ground ball to the shortstop that was air mailed on the throw to first, making it a 1-0 game on the three-base error.
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State found the equalizer in its half of the fourth. After the first two batters reached on a single and a dropped pop-up error, it looked as though Nyssa Dunn might be able to work out of it after inducing a fielder's choice out at third. Unfortunately, the tying run came across when she walked two of the next three batters, as the bases-loaded walk tied the contest at 1-1.
  • The Evangels strung together a massive threat in the bottom of the third when Taylor Martinez and Serena Rodriguez slapped back-to-back singles and Rodriguez utilized some heads-up base running to take second by intentionally getting in a run down before the Aggies tried to back pick Martinez at third. Unfortunately, OPSU pitcher Jordan Johnson induced a liner to short and a groundout to third to end the threat.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Evangels blew the game wide open with a six-run frame. Even though OPSU retired the first batter, Flores started the onslaught with a double to right-center and then getting to third on an errant throw by the third baseman on Dunn's ground ball. Heidi Noisey put MACU back in-front with her RBI single slapped into center before Gia Reynosa's bunt single allowed Dunn to score on an errant throw by the catcher trying to get Reynosa out at first.
  • With the Evangels holding the 3-1 advantage, Taylor Martinez drew a walk to load the bases before Serena Rodriguez ripped a bases-clearing triple down the right field line to stretch the lead to five. Rodriguez utilized some heads-up base running on Mia Macias' pop-up into foul territory, as she tagged up and scored to make it 7-1 when the third baseman made a diving grab and was unable to get up to make a throw home.
  • Neither team mustered much of a scoring threat the rest of the way as the Evangels ran away with the 7-1 win.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its seven runs on seven hits and committed an error while the Aggies scored their run on four hits and committed four errors.
  • Nyssa Dunn put together one of her best starts of her career in getting her third win of the season, as she only allowed one unearned run on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Outside of a tough third inning when she gave up two walks and a hit, she was stellar over the other six, allowing only three hits and a run over those other frames.
  • Serena Rodriguez led the MACU bats in a big way, finishing the contest 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, and a run scored. That three-bagger for Rodriguez was her team-leading sixth of the season, moving her alone into fourth on MACU's single season record book.
  • Heidi Noisey continued to add to her team-leading RBI total with her 24th of the season, slashing 1-for-2 with a run scored.
  • Gia Reynosa recorded her second multi-hit game of the season as she batted 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.
  • Kiley Flores was the lone Evangel to score multiple runs, batting 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of runs.
  • By getting the win, MACU has secured no worse than a split in the season series.
  • With Central Christian pulling off a massive doubleheader upset at Texas Wesleyan, the Evangels moved into a tie for third with the Rams in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with six games left to go in the conference slate.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will play its final home games of the regular season on Saturday with the opening pitch of the twin bill taking place at noon at Allen Field.
