GAME SUMMARY
  • Science & Arts opened strong right out of the gate as Connor Martin hit a leadoff solo homer down the left field line. The Drovers continued to threaten as Solomon Harwood and Corey Morro reached on a walk and single with one out, but MACU starting pitcher Carlos Uribe induced a 4-3 double play to get out of the jam.
  • The Drovers added two more runs to their tally in the third when Corey Morro slugged a 2-run homer over the right-center field wall with two outs to extend the edge to 3-0.
  • The Evangels answered right back in their half of the third. While Sammy Hallada slapped a single through the left side and Jalen King blazed out an infield single to the pitcher, MACU's home run record holder added to his tally when he sent the game-tying three run blast over the right field fence.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, MACU blew the game wide open. After the Evangels loaded the bases on a Jahzeel Groetelaers single, an Elijah Lee walk, Hallada reaching on an errant throw on his sac bunt pulling the first baseman off the bag, King hit a slow grounder toward the hole at second that pulled the first baseman away trying to field it, allowing him to reach on an infield RBI single. The Evangels continued to slowly bat around when Hill hammered a deep flyball to left that was misplayed by the left fielder, allowing another run to score to make it 5-3.
  • With the bases still juiced, Adam Hanan added two more runs on his two-RBI double down the left field line. With runners still at second and third, Hill ended up scoring on a wild pitch before Frankie Giacalone slapped a single into center to score Hanan, making it a 9-3 contest.
  • USAO got a pair of runs back in the sixth. After Gabe Clyden and Anthony Hampton hit back-to-back one-out single and double to put a pair in scoring position, Martin hit an RBI groundout to second before Hampton scored on a passed ball, closing the gap to 9-5.
  • The Evangels continued to score runs in bunches with another four-run frame in the sixth. Following Hill's leadoff walk, Hanan once again powered a line drive double down the left field line all the way to the wall, scoring Hill from first to double-up the lead at 10-5. Two batters later, Giacalone blasted a two-run shot over the right field wall before Groetelaers added a solo blast of his own to left to bring the score to 13-5.
  • MACU managed to end the game early in the seventh, wrapping it up with some Senior Day style. After Hanan drew a walk to start the frame, USAO retired the next two batters before the Evangels gave some of their seniors some pinch-hit opportunities. Tuane Cope rifled a double to the left-center field wall to put two in scoring position before Jesse Ortega ended the contest by dropping a two-RBI single into right to wrap-up the 15-5 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its 15 runs on 16 hits while the Drovers scored their five runs on eight hits and committed a pair of errors.
  • Competing in his last regular season home game at the MACU Baseball Field, Andrws Acosta earned the win after throwing three strong innings of relief, allowing only two runs, one earned on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
  • Frankie Giacalone and Jalen King each finished with a three-hit day, as King went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI while Giacalone slashed 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs, and a run scored with a stolen base.
  • Nick Hill and Adam Hanan continued their mashing ways in the middle of MACU's batting order. Hill wrapped up his day hitting 2-for-3 with a homer, four RBIs, and three runs to go with a walk while Hanan slashed 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs, and three runs with a walk and hit-by-pitch as well.
  • Jahzeel Groetelaers tallied a two-hit day after batting 2-for-4 with a homer, an RBI, and a run scored while Sammy Hallada scored a pair of runs after finishing 1-for-3 as well as a hit-by-pitch.
  • MACU's pinch hitters on the day were downright sensational, as the trio of Ned Ceklic, Tuane Cope, and Jesse Ortega combined to go 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, and run scored to go with a walk.
  • By getting the victory, it marks the third consecutive year that the Evangels recorded at least 20 Sooner Athletic Conference wins, wrapping up the regular season with a 20-7 record in league play to finish second in the SAC standings.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will be in a familiar position when it hosts the opening three-game series of the SAC Quarterfinal next weekend at the MACU Baseball Field as the second-seeded Evangels will be matched up once again with the seventh-seed Drovers.
  • The first two games of the series will be played on Friday with the "if necessary" game being played on Saturday if the teams split the doubleheader on Friday. Game times have yet to be determined.
