OKLAHOMA CITY – MACU Volleyball played its first home game of the 2026 campaign as the Evangels swept Central Christian in straight sets on Friday night inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

MATCH SUMMARY

• Set One
  • MACU jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead capped off by a service ace from Kaetlen Schier after a trio of kills came from Seyi Atolagbe, Marcela Nalin, and Mia Benson.
  • The Tigers made a bit of a run in response, but six consecutive points from the Evangels forced the first timeout from Central Christian as MACU led 10-4. The Evangels continued to get their offense from the main three up front.
  • Mid-America Christian extended its lead up to 22-9 late in the set as Katie Stafford joined the attack with a few terminations herself during the Evangel run. MACU closed out the set after a service error from the Tigers to take set one 25-12.
• Set Two
  • Central Christian started set two a bit more competitive after an even first six points. Benson and Nalin both shared a few kills in the early stages. However, the Evangels' serve started to prove too much for the Tigers as another service ace came from Kristen Straughn to give MACU a 9-4 advantage.
  • The Tigers brought it within two at 10-8, but MACU closed the door on the comeback with five straight points and consecutive aces from Schier for a 16-11 lead just after the media timeout.
  • The Evangels closed the second set on a 9-2 run including eight consecutive points to snatch the set 25-13. Attack came from Mia Benson with three kills and a pair of aces from Gracelyn Skaggs. Marcela Nalin put the exclamation mark on the set with a big-time termination after a perfect set from Jasmine Liongco.
• Set Three
  • Set three opened the most competitive as the Evangels and Tigers were knotted up at seven through the opening 14 points. Atolagbe and Nalin were the main sources of offense as Madi Trayler introduced herself into the contest with a dominant kill.
  • The Tigers took a narrow 12-10 lead for their first lead of the contest as errors crept into the MACU defense. However, Mia Benson responded with consecutive kills to switch the momentum. Traylor gave the Evangels a 15-12 lead as both teams went to the media timeout.
  • The Evangels dominated the final stages of the set with a 10-4 run to take the match on a 25-16 final set score. Seyi Atolagbe added a few more kills to her tally and an attacking error from the Tigers gave MACU the win.

MATCH NOTES

• MACU dominated the attacking statistics with a 42-21 kill margin on a .347 attacking percentage to the Tigers .092 ATK%. Defensively, the Evangels had 50 digs to Central Christian's 43.   
• Mia Benson and Marcela Nalin led the Evangel attack with 10 kills apiece. Nalin hit on a .450 ATK% and Benson .381 ATK%. Seyi Atolagbe added eight kills on .438 ATK%.  
• Jasmine Liongco was the leading passer with 26 assists. Kristen Straughn with 10 assists of her own.  
• On the defensive side, Gracelyn Skaggs had 20 digs and Kaetlen Schier with the next most at five.
• The Evangels tied their second highest tally in service aces with 12. Gracelyn Skaggs tied her career-high with four, Kaetlen Schier added three, and Jasmine Liongco hit two.  
• MACU improved to 2-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, as they look to climb back up the conference table after a tough opening SAC schedule.
• Mid-America Christian holds a 19-1 all-time record against Central Christian, winners of seven consecutive.
