Drew Brooks is entering his first season as the hitting coach for the MACU baseball program for the 2021 season.
Brooks comes to MACU from Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach. With the Javelinas, Brooks primarily worked with catchers, performed individual hitting sessions and performed on-field maintenance. Brooks was a crucial leader for the NCAA Division II squad that went 21-12 overall and 19-10 in Lone Star Conference play to finish third in the stellar conference's league standings.
Previously, Brooks served as the volunteer assistant coach for St. Louis Community College-Meramec for the 2019-20 season. Brooks worked primarily with hitters and also performed batting practice with the team.Â
Brooks currently serves as a coach for the Lights Out Baseball academy in San Antonio, Texas, a position he's held since 2019. Lights Out is a youth baseball travel organization that operates over the summer. Brooks has also served as an umpire for the Game 7 Baseball youth league out of Missouri, a position he held between 2019-20.
In his collegiate playing career, Brooks played his first three years of college ball at Hill College in Texas and his redshirt junior and senior seasons at Missouri Baptist. In his final two seasons, Brooks amassed a .286 batting average with 102 hits, 86 runs, 62 RBIs with 25 doubles, three triples and 15 home runs, as he helped lead the Spartans to a 36-17 record in 2019 and a 32-18 mark in 2018. In his redshirt sophomore season at Hill College in 2017, Brooks put up some monster numbers from the plate, batting .323 with a team-high 13 homers and 61 RBIs to go with 44 runs and 13 stolen bases.Â
Brooks is a native of San Antonio, Texas and earned his Bachelor's of Science in Sports Management degree from Missouri Baptist in 2020 and his Associate's degree in General Studies from Hill College in 2017.
