Jim Gasso is entering into his second season as the head coach of the MACU Softball program for the upcoming 2025 season.
After being named the program's skipper in May of 2023, Gasso helped lead the Evangels to one of their most successful seasons in program history as MACU wrapped up the 2024 campaign with a 37-17 overall record and qualified for the team's first ever NAIA National Tournament.Â
MACU also put together its best season ever in Sooner Athletic Conference play, posting a team-record 27 wins after going 27-9 in league play to finish third in the conference standings, which included picking up a pair of victories to split the season series against NAIA powerhouse No. 4 Science & Arts on Mar. 22-23.
On-top of qualifying for for NAIA postseason play for the first time, the Evangels also notched their first ever NAIA Tournament victory as MACU cruised to an impressive 4-0 victory over No. 15 College of Idaho on May 14.
The Gasso family is synonymous with softball in Oklahoma. His wife, Patty is head coach of the University of Oklahoma Sooners, where his son, JT, also serves as an assistant coach. Gasso's younger son DJ is associate head coach at the University of Utah.
Gasso has owned and operated the IntenCity Sports Training Academy in Norman, Okla, since 2010. IntenCity trained multiple high school and college athletes, including some of MACU's student-athletes.
Overall, Gasso's athletics coaching and administrative experience runs deep. He worked in athletics at the high school and collegiate level for 41 years, beginning his career as a graduate assistant football coach at Utah State University in 1983.
Gasso's most recent coaching stint came at Bishop McGuinness High School in Oklahoma City, where he served as the head softball coach during the 2018 season after serving as an assistant baseball coach in 2017.
Gasso earned his master's degree in education from Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) in 1986 and his bachelor's degree in physical education from California State University-Long Beach in 1982.
