Heisman Trophy Winner Kicks Off MACU's First FCA Meeting

Sept. 20, 2007

9/20/07 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Heisman Trophy winner and former University of Oklahoma quarterback Jason White spoke to approximately 200 students and athletes at Mid-America's first Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting, Sept. 19.

White talked about his career at OU and the ups and downs of being a starting quarterback at a prestigious NCAA Division I program. White, who came from the small town of Tuttle, Okla., was often discouraged as he battled injuries and waited behind other quarterbacks for his chance in the spotlight. He continued to persevere, and eventually won the most coveted prize awarded to quarterbacks, the Heisman.

"This was a great message for our athletes to hear," Athletic Director Willey Holley said. "Life as a college athlete can be a challenge, and Jason White reminded us that hard work and determination pay off."

"We are excited about bringing FCA to campus," Holley continued. "These meetings will give our athletes a time each month to listen to an inspiring message, and then to relax and talk to each other. I see this as family time, when all the teams come together as the Mid-America athletic program family and focus on how we can encourage each other and dedicate our abilities and talents to the Lord."
