MACU Loses in Shoot-out

Nov. 17, 2007

11.17.07 - 11/17/07 EDMOND, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels lost in a shoot-out to the Texas College Steers Saturday, Nov. 17 in the Sleep Inn Classic on the campus of Oklahoma Christian University. The Steers outlasted the Evangels 113-106.

"There was very little defense in this game," Head Coach Willie Holley said. "The offense was clicking on all cylinders tonight."

MACU's bench came up big for the Evangels, scoring 38 points.

"Our bench was a key factor in the game and they came up big for us," Coach Holley said.

The first half displayed excellent shooting from both teams. The Evangels made 50% of their shots, while the Steers made 53% of their field goal attempts.

Texas College outscored MACU 61-50 in the first half.

The second half was back and forth, as the Evangels crawled their way back into the game. The Evangels crept closer and closer to taking the lead, and tied the game with six minutes remaining. The Steers regained the lead, but the Evangels tied the game again with four minutes left. That is the closest the Evangels got, as Texas College held on for the win.

Senior Tracy Wilkins scored a team high 19 points and grabbed four rebounds. Senior Stevan Thomas recorded another double-double in his Evangel career with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Joe Brown scored 16 points and shot 75% from beyond the arc.

Junior Derek Winston came off the bench and scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior Tyron Goldsmith contributed 12 points and four rebounds off the bench.

With the loss the Evangels fall to 4-2 on the season.

MACU will travel to Lindsborg, Kan. Tuesday, Nov. 20, and play Bethany College at 7:30 p.m. The Evangels defeated Bethany College 82-70 earlier in the season.
