MACU Loses in SAC Play

Jan. 10, 2008

1.10.08 - SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels lost to the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison in Sooner Athletic Conference play Thursday, Jan 10. The Evangels were defeated by the Bison 70-55.

OBU capitalized on a poor MACU first half. The Evangels shot just 24% from the field in the first half and went 3-for-13 from the three-point line in the first half.

"The first half put us in a hole," Head Coach Willie Holley said. "We struggled to execute on our offenses and that contributed to the poor shooting.

The Bison started the game on a 14-0 run, but the Evangels rallied and trimmed the lead to single digits. OBU stretched their lead back to double digits, due greatly to poor MACU shooting.

OBU claimed a 35-22 halftime lead against MACU.

The Evangels began to chip away at the lead early in the second half, but the Bison never gave up the lead. OBU held its largest lead at 49-27 mid-way through the second half. The Evangels inched closer, but failed to cut the lead below single digits.

Senior Joe Brown led all Evangels with 10 points. Junior Clint Nixon chipped in nine points and six rebounds.

The Evangels fall to 5-8 on the season, and 1-5 in SAC play.

MACU will take on St. Gregory's University on the road in conference play Saturday, Jan 12 at 8:00 p.m.
