1.10.08 - SHAWNEE, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels fell to the top ranked team in the Sooner Athletic Conference, the Oklahoma Baptist University Lady Bisons, Thursday, Jan 10. The Lady Evangels lost to the Lady Bison 95-49.
The Lady Evangels succumbed to the Lady Bison pressure in a hostile environment, committing 34 turnovers. MACU struggled from the field, shooting 31% overall and 14% from behind the arc.
"OBU is a good team and I thought we played timid, especially in the first half," Head Coach Josh Lind said. "We did not come out with a whole lot of aggression."
The Lady Bison jumped on the Lady Evangels early in the first half, but MACU responded and cut the lead 10-6 at the 14:23 mark. However, OBU responded quickly and went on a 19-3 run and stretched its lead to twenty points.
MACU went into the locker room down 48-20 at halftime.
OBU never relinquished its lead in the second half, but MACU never gave up. The Lady Evangels continued to fight in the second half, cutting down on turnovers and shooting a better percentage from the field.
"I thought we played much better in the second half. We did not commit as many turnovers and we executed our offenses better," Coach Lind said.
Senior Courtney Sorrels scored a team high 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman April Hale contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
The Lady Evangels drop to 3-11 on the season, 0-6 in conference play.
