2.14.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels fell to the St. Gregory's University Cavaliers in Sooner Athletic Conference action Thursday, Feb 14. The Cavaliers defeated the Evangels, 67-57.

"We made too many mistakes in the final minutes of the game," MACU Head Coach Willie Holley said. "It is tough to win when you make as many mistakes as we did in the closing minutes."

The Cavaliers made ten more free-throws than the Evangels, and made more free-throws than the Evangels shot. MACU committed 17 turnovers on the night, and forced 12 SGU turnovers. SGU shot 56% from the field in the second half.

The Evangels lead throughout the entire first half, but scored a season low 19 first half points. MACU held its largest lead of the first half, 15-6, with 8:46 left in the first half. The Cavaliers closed the first half on a 10-3 run and cut the lead to one possession.

MACU went into the locker room with a 19-16 halftime lead.

The Evangels held the lead in the beginning of the second half, despite SGU tying the game three times. The Cavaliers took their first lead of the game, 35-34, with twelve minutes remaining in the game.

SGU never trailed again, but the Evangels remained in striking distance. MACU cut the lead to a single possession with seven minutes left in thegame, but the Cavaliers scored on the ensuing possession.

The Evangels cut the lead to one possession throughout the remaining of the game, but the Cavaliers fought off the Evangels for the win.

Senior Joe Brown had a good game with 23 points. Junior Tyron Goldsmith scored 12 points off the bench for the Evangels.

The Evangels fall to 8-17 on the season, and 4-13 in SAC play.

MACU will play Oklahoma Baptist University at home Saturday, Feb 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
