2.28.08 - EDMOND, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels lost to the Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles in Sooner Athletic Conference play Thursday, Feb 28. The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Evangels, 73-46.
"OC is a tough place to play," MACU Head Coach Josh Lind said. "I thought we played well enough defensively, but we did not make enough shots."
The Lady Evangels shot just 33% from the field, and 17% from the three-point line. OC scored 27 points off of 20 MACU turnovers, while MACU scored just seven points off of seven OC turnovers. The Lady Eagles bench outscored the Lady Evangels bench, 46-9. The Lady Eagles made ten more free-throw than the Lady Evangels attempted.
The Lady Eagles scored the first five points of the game, but MACU tied the game at 9-9 at the 11:21 mark in the first half. The Lady Eagles scored on the ensuing possession, which started a 9-0 run, giving OC an 18-9 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
The Lady Eagles held their largest lead at the close of the first half, 27-15, and went into the locker room ahead of the Lady Evangels at halftime.
The Lady Eagles stretched their lead to 16 points early in the second half, but the Lady Evangels trimmed the lead to ten points with sixteen minutes remaining in the game. MACU would never inch any closer, as OC stretched its lead past 20 points for the first time at the 9:59 mark. OC closed the game on a 15-6 run, and held on for the win.
Junior Treasure McCoy had a good game with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Freshman Melissa Aguilar contributed five points, five rebounds, and five assists.
The Lady Evangels are 8-23 on the season, and 4-17 in SAC action.
MACU will play Northwestern Oklahoma State University in its last home game of the season, Saturday, March 1. Seniors Courtney Sorrels and Miah Milton will be honored before the game. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
