Kansas City, Mo. -- The Mid-America Christian University athletics program has received an NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star award, announced today by the national office.
To receive a Five-Star award, an institution must score 60 points or more on the NAIA Champions of Character scorecard, which is based on integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
In addition, the Sooner Athletic Conference received a Five-Star award as a conference, which requires at least 60 % of its member schools scoring 60 or more points.
The schools were graded on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in the following categories: character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion.
Institutions were also rewarded for having solid grade-point averages and accumulating zero ejections through the duration of the academic year.
MACU tallied a score of 73, tying it for 56th overall in the NAIA and fourth in the SAC.
