Oklahoma City, Okla.
-- The No. 3-ranked Oklahoma City Stars scored the first 15 points of the
contest and never looked back in a 91-46 win in the Sooner Athletic Conference
opener for both teams Tuesday evening (Nov. 23) at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The lead for the Stars (6-0, 1-0 SAC) grew as high as 30 in
the opening half when the Lady Evangels (2-3, 0-1 SAC) made a brief charge as
back-to-back threes by Egidija Busaite and Brittany Woodard sparked an 8-0
spurt that cut the lead to 37-15.
Five straight free throws and an offensive putback by Breezy
Martin extended the OCU lead back to 29 with 3:41 left in the first half.
The Stars went on to a 47-18 cushion at the break.
OCU shot 46.9 percent (15-of-32) from the field in the first
half, while limiting the Lady Evangels to only a 22.6 percent (7-of-31)
shooting clip and forcing 13 turnovers that led to 19 points.
Things didn't get much better for MACU in the second half as
the Stars opened the second stanza with an 11-3 run that grew the deficit to
58-21.
Consecutive layups by Nicole Wittman and Michelle Hardimon
brought the Lady Evangels to within 33, but that's as close as they would get
the rest of the night as the Stars cruised down the stretch.
Wittman had a team-high 11 points and Magen Roth led MACU
with six rebounds. Melissa Aguilar recorded a team-best three assists.
Lauren Gober had a game-high 22 for the Stars and also added
seven rebounds. Gober made 4-of-7 from
beyond the arc and hit all six of her free-throw attempts. Martin added 13 and Tiffany Goldwire chipped
in with 10.
The Lady Evangels were out-rebounded 50-36 overall and 19-11
on the offensive glass.
MACU will next host Central Baptist in a non-conference
matchup on Monday evening (Nov. 29) at 6 p.m. in the Gaulke Activity
Center.
