Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams used a 13-2 run in the latter stages of the first half to take control and never looked back in a 63-49 win over the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels Friday night (Nov. 5) at the Gaulke Activity Center.
The season-opening loss drops MACU to 0-1 on the season.
The Lady Evangels jumped out to a 6-2 lead early on and then led 14-11 on a three by Tranecia Smith with 8:04 remaining in the first half.
Shayla Moore then keyed the Lady Rams' 11-point push by scoring seven points over a six minute stretch to push the lead to 31-20 with just 25 seconds left in the first half.
MACU trailed 31-22 at the half and drew within six by scoring the first three points of the second half on a free-throw by Michelle Hardimon and a layup by Nicole Wittman.
But that's as close as the Lady Evangels would get as the Lady Rams scored the next eight points and built the lead as high as 20 points with 5:55 remaining.
Hardimon and Smith each led the Lady Evangels with 12 points apiece. Hardimon also pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
Moore paced the Lady Rams (1-0) with a game-high 15 points. Rachelle Franklin chipped in with 11.
The Lady Evangels will get right back at it tomorrow evening (Nov. 6) by hosting McPherson College at 6 p.m.
