Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels held the St. Gregory's Cavaliers to only nine points in the first half and then held on for a 52-47 victory in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup Saturday evening (Jan. 20) at the Gaulke Activity Center.
The Lady Evangels were stingy from the get-go, scoring the first eight points of the game and holding the Cavaliers scoreless for nearly the first 10 minutes of the contest.
Michelle Hardimon got the Lady Evangels (9-8, 5-6 SAC) going by scoring the first four points of the game and then nailed a three for a 21-9 lead.
Marcy Robinson then scored to put MACU up 23-9 heading into the locker room.
The Lady Evangels continued to stretch the lead in the second half and led 30-13 on a three by April Hale at the 16:51 mark of the second half.
Buckets by Nicole Wittman and Brittany Johnson gave the Lady Evangels their largest lead of the game at 48-29 with 7:52 remaining.
The Cavaliers (5-12, 1-9 SAC) wouldn't go down without a fight as Leticia Silva converted a three-point play that cut the lead to six at 50-44 with 2:37 left.
But a two-pointer by Wittman extended the lead back to eight and the closest the Cavaliers came from that point was the final five-point margin on a three by Hay Lea Harper.
Hardimon led the Lady Evangels with 17 points and also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Wittman added nine and Melissa Aguilar dished out a team-best four assists.
Silva had a game-high 19 to pace the Cavaliers, while Jalisa Howard had 12 points and a game-high 11 boards.
The Lady Evangels also forced 30 turnovers on the night.
MACU will now finish up its two-game homestand with a matchup against Oklahoma Baptist Saturday evening (Jan. 22) at 6 p.m. at the Gaulke Activity Center.
