Wittman's 21 points not enough as Lady Evangels fall 82-76 at Oklahoma Christian

Edmond, Okla. -- Katy Clift scored 20 points and made five threes to lift the Oklahoma Christian Lady Eagles to an 82-76 win over the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels in Sooner Athletic Conference action Thursday night (Jan. 6) in Edmond, Okla.

MACU fell behind by five when Clift scored the first points of the second half for the Lady Eagles when Nicole Wittman made a free throw and Roth nailed a three to trim the lead to one at the 17:37 mark.

Marcy Robinson then forced a turnover and scored off an offensive putback that gave the Lady Evangels a 38-37 advantage.

But two treys by Clift fueled a 15-2 spurt that gave the Lady Eagles their largest lead to that point at 52-40 when 12:49 remaining.

The deficit was still 12 when Brittany Woodard connected from beyond the arc and Magen Roth scored inside that brought the Lady Evangels to within 58-51 with 9:19 remaining.

MACU then came within five at 62-57 on a bucket by Wittman and a running jumper from Tranecia Smith with 6:27 left.

With 5:10 remaining, a three by Melissa Aguilar drew the Lady Evangels even closer at 64-60.

The margin remained at four until another three by Clift and a score from Krista Stevens stretched the lead back to nine at the 3:13 mark.

The Lady Evangels wouldn't go away though as a three from Robinson and a pair of free throws by Brittany Woodard again made it a four-point game.

But five free throws expanded the Lady Eagle advantage back to nine with just 1:31 left.

The Lady Evangels came as close as six on four occasions, with the last being on a Michelle Hardimon layup with seven seconds left.

The Lady Eagles scored the first two points of the game, but Wittman scored three field goals inside and added a pair of free throws as part of an 8-2 run.

A three-point play by Katy O'Steen capped an 11-1 spurt that gave the Lady Eagles a 15-9 advantage.

Two more buckets by Wittman and a jumper by Roth tied the score with 8:26 remaining.

Clift and Roth then exchanged threes to once again knot the score at 18-18 at the 7:49 mark of the first half.

After a three by Aguilar gave the Lady Evangels a one-point lead, Clift answered with a trey of her own that put OC right back in front with 5:03 left in the opening half.

The Lady Eagles went on to a 33-30 lead at the half.

Wittman led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 at the foul line. Smith added 12 along with a game-high six assists. Robinson scored 11 and Roth chipped in with 10.  Aguilar and Michelle Hardimon each pulled down six rebounds to lead the Lady Evangels (6-7, 2-5 SAC).
