Lady Evangels get defensive in 63-42 rout of Northwestern Oklahoma State

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels used a stifling defensive effort in a 63-42 rout of the Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers in Sooner Athletic Conference action Saturday evening (Jan. 8) at the Gaulke Activity Center.

The Lady Rangers jumped out to a 9-5 lead at the 14:17 mark of the opening half when the Lady Evangels took over.

MACU out-scored the Lady Rangers by a robust 26-4 over the next 11 minutes for a 31-13 lead.

The wealth was spread around during the outburst, as nine different Lady Evangels scored during the run, led by five points each from Michelle Hardimon and April Hale.

The Lady Evangels took a 38-21 lead into the locker room

MACU kept the pressure on in the second half as six different Lady Evangels scored to spark a 16-3 spurt during the first 7:30 of the second stanza.

Melissa Aguilar capped the run with a three-point play off a turnover at the 12:29 mark of the second half that made it a 30-point game.

The Lady Evangels' defense was especially stingy in the early going of the second half, as they held the Lady Rangers without a field goal until the 10:52 point.

A bucket by Brittany Johnson again gave the Lady Evangels a 30-point cushion at 56-26 with 9:56 left and they cruised from there to the victory.

Hale, Hardimon and Wittman each scored 10 points to lead MACU's offensive attack, with six Lady Evangels scoring at least six points.  Wittman had a game-high 10 boards and Aguilar dished out a game-high five assists.

The Lady Evangels didn't allow any Lady Rangers to score in double-figures, with Talytha Williams tallying a team-best eight points.

MACU limited the Lady Rangers (7-6, 3-5 SAC) to only a 25.8 percent (16-of-62) shooting clip for the game and also held a 45-40 rebounding edge.

The Lady Evangels (7-7, 3-5 SAC) will next host USAO on Thursday evening (Jan. 13). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in the Gaulke Activity Center.
