Lady Evangels grind out 63-51 win over Austin College

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Parris Price converted a crucial three-point play late in the second half to help the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels preserve a hard-fought, 63-51 victory over the Austin College Kangaroos in non-conference action Tuesday night (Nov. 29) at the Gaulke Activity Center.  Austin College is an NCAA D-III school located in Sherman, Texas.

Price's three-point play came at the 2:14 mark of the second half after the 'Roos had cut a 10-point lead down to four at 51-47 moments earlier.

Buckets by Kourtni Williams and Eric Jones built the lead to 10 again at 58-48 with just 1:25 left to put the Lady Evangels in total control.

MACU (6-1) then made 5-of-6 free throws over the final minute to seal the win.

The Lady Evangels came out of the gate strong, scoring the first eight points of the contest.

It was 15-7 when threes by Angeleena Young and Christina Kime fueled a 9-1 surge to bring the 'Roos to within one.

A three-point play by Williams pushed the lead back to 22-16, but the 'Roos closed the half strong with an 8-2 run over the final 4:45 to tie the score at 24-24 at the break.

Much like the first half, the Lady Evangels started the second stanza on the right note as a three by Erica Jones capped a 9-0 run that made it 33-24.

The 'Roos again hung around though as a pair of free throws by Kime made it 36-33 at the 11:42 mark.

Price paced four Lady Evangels in double-figures with team-highs of 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists.  Williams scored 17, while Brittany Woodard had 14 to go along with a game-high six steals.

Kime had a team-high 17 to lead the 'Roos (0-5), while Young added 12.

The Lady Evangels used a solid defensive effort to limit the 'Roos to only a 31.3 percent (15-of-48) shooting clip overall and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) in the second half.

MACU shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) for the game, including a blistering 57.9 percent (11-of-19) clip in the second half.

The Lady Evangels will next face a stern test at No. 11-ranked Southern Nazarene in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup Thursday night (Dec. 1) at 6 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
