Evangels walk off against No. 27 Avila Eagles, 8-7 to split doubleheader

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- After squandering a two-run lead in the top of the seventh inning, the Mid-America Christian Evangels responded with a pair of the runs in the bottom of the inning for a dramatic, 8-7 walk-off victory over the No. 27-ranked Avila Eagles in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon (Feb. 19) at Evangel Field.

The Evangels led 6-4 heading into the seventh, but a passed ball and a two-run single by Matthew Saragusa gave the Eagles a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Sean Sanders was then hit by a pitch and Eridani Dume beat out a grounder to put the first two runners on in the inning.  Emmanuel Jiminian then sacrificed both runners to second and third that led to an intentional walk to Jeff Eubank.

Jon Jon Lemos followed that with a game-winning two-run single to the Evangels the victory.

The Eagles won the opener of the twinbill, 9-5.

MACU will next be in action on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 22) with a doubleheader in Weatherford, Okla. against Southwestern Oklahoma State, beginning at 1 p.m.
