Three-point barrage leads Oklahoma Christian to 81-72 win over Lady Evangels

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Lady Eagles drilled 13 threes, including six by Katy Clift, that sparked a 81-72 win over the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels Thursday evening (Feb. 3) at the Gaulke Activity Center.

Things started out well for the Lady Evangels, with Marcy Robinson and Melissa Aguilar combining for 10 points to lead a 17-5 run that put them up 19-12 at the 10:14 mark of the opening half.

That's where the Lady Eagles caught fire as Clift nailed back-to-back treys after Ayanna Jackson also hit from long range to put the Lady Eagles in front 21-19.

Chelsea Key tied the score with a layup, but three more treys gave the Lady Eagles an eight-point lead.

A basket by Katy O'Steen pushed the Lady Eagle lead to 10 at 35-25 and OC went on to a 40-32 lead at the break.

Jackson helped the Lady Eagles pick up where they left by opening the second half with a three and a layup by Andee Wayne gave them their biggest lead of the game at 53-38 with 14:44 left.

The Lady Evangels (10-11, 6-9 SAC) wouldn't go quietly as a three-point play by Key capped a 9-2 spurt that cut the lead to 64-58 with 7:59 remaining.

OC answered back as a trey by Krista Stevens and free throws from Clift and Stevens helped push the lead back to 14 at the 4:08 mark.

MACU again clawed back with a 9-0 run to come within 74-69 off a steal and then a layup from Aguilar with 1:53 left.

But seven free throws by the Lady Eagles down the stretch, including five by Carli Covalt, closed the game out for OC (11-12, 5-10 SAC).
