Lady Evangels advance to NCCAA Central Regional Championship with dominating 70-47 victory over Central Baptist

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Marcy Robinson scored a game-high 23 points and the Lady Evangels used a stifling defensive attack to move on to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional semifinals with a 70-47 victory over the Central Baptist Lady Mustangs Friday evening (Mar. 11) at the Gaulke Activity Center.

Robinson wasted little time getting going as she scored the Lady Evangels' first 10 points of the game and nailed three free throws to make it 13-4 at the 16:10 mark of the first half.

The Lady Mustangs came back to within 17-11 on a bucket by Chelsea Gregory, but the Lady Evangels pulled out to a 24-15 edge at the half and then led by 12 as April Hale began the second half by connecting from beyond the arc.

MACU led 31-18 when consecutive treys by Casey Williams and Sammi Fowler sparked an 8-0 CBC run that cut the lead to five.

It was still a five-point advantage when Brittany Woodard caught fire with 10 straight points as the Lady Evangels effectively put the game away with a 12-0 run to lead by 17 with just 4:58 remaining.

Another trey by Hale gave MACU its largest lead of the game at 70-44 with 1:09 left.

Robinson's 23 points came on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point distance.  Hale scored 13 and made all of three-point attempts and Woodard's 10 points all came in that spurt.  Nicole Wittman scored eight and had a game-high 11 rebounds.

Ashley Williams scored 11 and was the lone Lady Mustang to reach double-figures.

The Lady Evangels shot only 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the field but made up for it with a 50-35 advantage on the boards, including a 22-7 edge on the offensive glass.

The No. 2 seeded Lady Evangels will face the No. 4 seed Southwestern Christian Lady Eagles in the regional title game tomorrow afternoon (Mar. 12) at 1 p.m.
