Shawnee, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian Evangels won for the fourth time in their last five games by rallying in the eighth inning for a 3-2 victory over the St. Gregory's Cavaliers in the rubber game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon (Mar. 19) at Bill Nicklas Field in Shawnee, Okla.
The Evangels trailed 2-1 heading into the eighth inning when
Jeff Eubank hit a one-out double and then plated the tying run on a run-scoring double by
Jose Flores.
Derek Allen then came on to pinch run for Flores and scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by
Jon Jon Lemos.
That would be all the run support
David Wynn would need, as he threw 7 2/3 solid innings and allowed only two runs and struck out 12.
Wynn also got solid support from the bullpen, as
Ivan Juvera came on in relief with two outs in the eighth and recorded the final out to strand the potential tying run at second base.
Maximiliano Lopez then pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.
The Evangels fell behind in the first on a lead off home run by Jeremy Springer and the Cavaliers added another run in the bottom of the third for a two-run lead.
MACU got on the board in the fourth inning when Eubank hit a lead off double and scored on an RBI single by
David Rhoads.
The Evangels will next begin a series at current No. 5-ranked Lubbock Christian on Friday afternoon (Mar. 25) at 3 p.m.
