David Wynn's gem leads Evangels to 5-1 win over USAO

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Senior hurler David Wynn, pitching at home for the final time of his career, gave the MACU fans something to remember by pitching a complete game with no earned runs allowed to lift the Mid-America Christian Evangels to a 5-1 win over the USAO Drovers in the first of a three-game series Thursday afternoon (Apr. 28) at the James Curtis Complex in OKC.

Wynn was masterful from the outset, striking out 13 and walking none.  He blanked the Drovers through three innings before an unearned run in the fourth inning spoiled the shutout.

USAO starter David Garcia was also solid on the mound, giving up three runs and striking out five in 6 1/3 innings.

The Evangels got on the board in the bottom of the second when an RBI double by Justin Rivera plated pinch runner Kenny Bruehl.

With the score 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Evangels jumped on top for good when Jeff Eubank led off the inning with a single, stole second and then scored on two wild pitches.

Jon Jon Lemos then doubled to lead off the seventh and scored the third run on an RBI single by Joe Moore.

The Evangels added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on RBI doubles by reigning SAC and NAIA Player of the Week Adrian Bravo-Carmona and Lemos that made it 5-1.

Wynn would then put the finishing touches on the victory by striking out the side in the ninth.

Lemos went 2-of-2 at the plate to pace the Evangels' offensive attack, while Jake Dunbar and Regulo Moy each had two hits apiece for the Drovers.

The Evangels and Drovers will finish the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 30) at 1 p.m. in Chickasha, Okla.
