Oklahoma City, Okla. --
Jeff Eubank went 3-of-4 to lead the charge as the Mid-America Christian Evangels salvaged a split of a doubleheader against the Arlington Baptist Patriots with an 8-7 win in the second game Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 5) at Evangel Field in OKC. The Patriots took the opener 8-6.
It didn't take long for Eubank to get going, as he hit a solo homer to immediately give the Evangels a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Eubank then struck for a two-run double in a six-run second inning that gave the Evangels a commanding seven-run lead.
Jon Jon Lemos also hit a two-run homer in the second and
Jose Flores drew a bases-loaded walk that plated Eubanks for the sixth run of the inning.
After the Patriots got on the board with an unearned run in the third, Eubanks singled home
Joe Moore that gave the Evangels their seven-run lead back.
Kolton Holderby got the Patriots closer with a two-run homer in the fourth that made it 8-3 and the score stayed that way until things got interesting with two outs in the seventh.
Derek Allen relieved starter
Ryan Urban and pitched a scoreless sixth and Maximilliano Lopez began the seventh with two quick strikeouts.
The Patriots then strung together five straight singles, leading to four runs that suddenly made it a one-run game with the tying run on first.
But Lopez got another strikeout to end the threat and preserve the victory.
Urban was effective in five innings of work, allowing two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts to earn the victory.
Eubank also homered in the first inning of the opener and went 2-of-3 with three runs scored, but it wasn't enough as the Patriots took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the second and broke through with four more in the fourth sparked by RBI singles from Tim Langas and Mickey Anders.
The Patriots extended the lead to 8-1 on consecutive RBI doubles by Chris Wood and Devin Patton in the sixth, but
Jose Flores singled home two runs in the bottom of the sixth and the Evangels scored three more in the seventh to claw within two runs.
With the tying run at the plate, Patriots starter Will Johnson induced a strikeout to end the threat.
Johnson gave up six runs, but only three earned and struck out four in the complete game win.
Next up for the Evangels will be a three-game conference series with Southern Nazarene, beginning at home on Thursday afternoon (Apr. 7) at 3 p.m.
