Lubbock, Texas -- Despite a 4-of-4 effort from
Jeff Eubank, there was too much offense from the No. 9-ranked Lubbock Christian Chaps as LCU defeated the Mid-America Christian Evangels 18-5 in the first day of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday evening (May 4) in Lubbock, Texas.
The Evangels will continue pool play in the SAC tourney at Wayland Baptist tomorrow evening (May 5), also at 6 p.m.
MACU got on the board first as
Luis Martinez tripled and was doubled home by Eubank in the first inning.
The Chaps answered right back with four runs, including three unearned tallies thanks to an error.
An RBI double by Chandler Griffin capped the inning that made it 4-1.
The Chaps added two more runs in the second before the Evangels came back with a pair of their own in the third on a solo homer by Martinez and an RBI single by
Adrian Bravo-Carmona that cut the deficit to 6-3.
But a pair of two-run triples by Ryan Burnaman keyed a four-run fifth and an eight-run sixth that broke the game wide open for the Chaps.
Richard Bohlken also homered and singled home a run in the big sixth inning.
Mike Marshall went the distance for the Chaps in the win, giving up four earned runs and striking out nine.
Burnaman was 4-of-5 with four RBI for the Chaps, while Bohlken went 3-of-4 and drove in four runs.
