Oklahoma City, Okla. - Athletic Director Willie Holley has announced the promotion of Charles Goar to the new position of Assistant Athletic Director at Mid-America Christian University.
"It has been exciting over the last 4 years to see the athletic department grow to meet the challenges associated with NAIA membership," Holley said. "
"The development of the athletic department along with the vision of the university has created the need for an Assistant Athletic Director's position. Charles Goar has a deep love for this University, the Athletic Department and most of all in helping others grow in Christ. He has worked with athletic programs at the High School, Community College, NAIA and NCAA level of competition. I am proud that he has been given the opportunity to serve in this new position."
In addition to continuing as assistant coach, Goar's new duties will include assisting in planning, organizing and directing the athletic department. He will also continue to coordinate MACU's NAIA Champions of Character initiative.
"I welcome the challenge and am really looking forward to some of the new responsibilities," Goar said.
"I really feel blessed and thank God for being a part of such a great university. I'm looking forward to continue working with our student athletes and assisting our coaches. I appreciate Dr. Fozard, Owen Sevier and Coach Holley for believing in my abilities."
The position may be new, but Goar is no stranger to MACU athletics. He has been the assistant basketball coach for the past six seasons and was instrumental in helping the program transition to the powerful Sooner Athletic Conference of the NAIA in 2007.
Goar also played at MACU and earned a first-team National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American selection in 1990 and was named to the MACU "Team of the 90's".
Goar graduated from MACU in 1990 with a B.S. in English and earned his M.Ed from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2000. He and his wife Michelle have one son, Jalen.
