Bartlesville, Okla. -- Behind 24 points and 10 assists from Devin Harris, the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles pulled away from the Mid-America Christian University Evangels for a 90-73 win in the final night of the OKWU Classic Saturday night in Bartlesville, Okla. The win avenges an earlier loss to MACU by the Eagles on Nov. 3 at the St. Gregory's University Classic.
The Evangels trailed by six at the break but battled back to pull even on a pair of threes from
Jarius Wilson and a bucket by
Angelo Lewis that made it 54-54 with 10:11 remaining.
But that's the point where the Eagles took charge as a three-point play by Zac Rogers ignited a 16-1 run that put OKWU in command with a 70-55 lead at the 6:08 mark.
The Evangels (2-3) couldn't buy a bucket during that span, as they missed all eight of their field-goal attempts over that four minute surge by the Eagles.
OKWU kept the Evangels at bay from there, never letting the lead dip below double-figures the rest of the way.
In addition to Harris' 24 points and 10 dimes, Phil Jahn scored 17 and pulled down a game-high nine boards. Tyler Woods added 16 points for the Eagles (5-2).
After shooting 50 percent (14-of-28) in the first half, the Evangels cooled off to only a 35 percent (14-of-40) shooting clip in the final period. Meanwhile, the Eagles warmed up in the second half to shoot 48.4 percent (15-of-31) after shooting 44.1 percent (15-of-34) in the opening half.
The Evangels did hold an edge on the boards, out-rebounding the Eagles 38-33 overall and 12-8 on the offensive glass.
MACU will next play an exhibition contest at NCAA D-II member Central Oklahoma University on Tuesday night (Nov. 20) at 7 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.
