No. 16 Southwestern College nips Lady Evangels, 71-68

Winfield, Kan. -- Kourtni Williams scored a career-high 24 points but it wasn't enough as the No. 16-ranked Southwestern College Lady Builders slipped by the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels 71-68 at the Tara Patterson Memorial Classic Friday night (Nov. 9) in Winfield, Kan.

Williams also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and Parris Price added 19 points, four assists and three steals.  Sabrina McKinney led the Lady Evangels with a game-high seven assists.

The Lady Evangels led by as many as seven in the first half after a three by Erica Jones made it 35-28 with 3:28 left in the opening half.

But the Lady Builders took control with 16 straight points that bridged the final 3:34 of the first half and the opening 56 seconds of the second as consecutive buckets by Jana Reichenberger gave SWC a 43-35 advantage.

Price then got the Lady Evangels back into it by scoring eight points to fuel a 10-2 run that cut the deficit to two with 17:02 remaining.

However, Reichenberger and Jessica Hobbs each scored six points to lead a 16-6 run as back-to-back threes by Hobbs stretched the lead back to 63-51.

The Lady Evangels wouldn't go away and came within two at 69-67, but Zefiryn Bryan scored to make it a two-possession game with 2:06 left and MACU couldn't get over the hump from there.

Reichenberger led the Lady Builders with 14 points and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field.  Bryan added 12 points along with team-highs of seven boards and six assists.

The Lady Evangels will wrap up action at the Tara Patterson Memorial Classic tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 10) at 2 p.m.
