After sterling offensive performances, Charlie Shorter named Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Following a trio of sterling offensive performances, including a legendary late game heroic effort at Lubbock Christian, Mid-America Christian University junior guard Charlie Shorter has been selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.

Currently the SAC's leading scorer, Shorter went off in leading the MACU Evangels to a 3-0 record this week, all on the road.

After scoring 16 points in an 83-75 win at St. Gregory's, Shorter exploded for the Evangels' final 16 points at Lubbock Christian, including a game-winning three with two seconds left that capped a career-high tying 33 point effort.

He then finished off the week with a game-high 27 points along with three rebounds and two assists in an 83-81 win at Wayland Baptist.

For the week, Shorter tallied 25.3 ppg and three boards on 64 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc and 51 percent (24-of-47) overall from the field.

Overall this season, Shorter leads the SAC with 21.8 ppg and is second on the team with 34 steals. He also has 4.3 rpg and 50 assists on the season.

Shorter and the Evangels are riding a three-game winning streak and will host current No. 15-ranked John Brown on Thursday night (Feb. 16) at 8 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
