Charlie Shorter leads trio of Evangels on All-Conference squad

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Junior Charlie Shorter (Dallas, Texas) has been named to the Sooner Athletic Conference second-team, the league announced today.  Senior Brandon Williams (Dallas, Texas) and junior Camilo Valencia (Los Angeles, Calif.) have earned Honorable-Mention selections.

Shorter receives the honor for the second time in his playing career after leading the SAC in scoring (22.1 ppg) this season along with ranking 10th in the league in threes (51).  He also recorded 4.3 rebounds a game and ranked second on the team with 40 steals.

Earlier this season, Shorter was named the SAC Player of the Week after leading the Evangels to three consecutive conference road victories by averaging 25.3 ppg and three boards. He shot 64 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc and 51 percent (24-of-47) overall from the field in the wins.

This is also the second consecutive All-Conference recognition for Williams, who was second on the team in scoring (13.1 ppg).  He was also second on the team in assists (75) and threes (41), while ranking third in thefts (38).

Valencia is an All-Conference performer after taking the reins of the starting point guard and dishing out a team-high 5.0 assists per game, good for fourth in the SAC.  He was also third on the Evangels in scoring (11.2) and was a solid defender, recording a team-best 45 steals on the season.

The trio will now help the Evangels prepare for the upcoming National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional Tournament, to be held in Denver, Colo. from Mar. 7-10 on the campus of Colorado Christian.

The Evangels fell just short of a regional title last season, losing here in the championship game to the eventual NCCAA national champion Dallas Baptist, 81-73.
