OBU holds off late Lady Evangels rally to win 66-62

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Baptist University Lady Bison withstood a furious last minute rally to hold off the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels 66-62 in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) at the Gaulke Activity Center.

The Lady Evangels (10-12, 4-12 SAC) were seemingly out of it after Ashton Pittman and Bridget Reynolds gave the Lady Bison a 12-point lead of 60-48 with just 1:07 left.

A pair of free throws by Parris Price and a three by Erica Jones cut the lead to 60-53 with 33 seconds left.

After Raquel Dudzevich made two at the line to stretch the lead to nine, Jones again connected from long range to make it a two possession game at 62-56 with 21 seconds left.

The Lady Bison then split a pair at the charity stripe on consecutive possessions, which allowed a three by Price and another trey by Jones to cut the lead to one possession at 65-62 with four seconds remaining.

But one free throw by Allie Brandenburg finally sealed the win for OBU.

An early barrage of five treys in the first five minutes, including two from Allie Brandenburg helped stake the Lady Bison to double-digit lead of 21-11 at the 12:48 mark.

The Lady Evangels then tightened things up defensively, holding OBU without a three the remainder of the half and only six points overall.

A putback by Nicole Wittman and a jumper by Erica Jones cut the lead to 25-20 and then a three-point play by Margaret Butler with 20 seconds left brought MACU to within 27-23 at the break.

Price led all scorers with 21 points along with a team-high eight rebounds. Jones had 20 and nailed 6-of-9 from three-point range.

Brandenburg, Pittman and Reynolds each scored 15 to pace the Lady Bison. Reynolds also recorded a game-high 10 boards.

The Lady Evangels held a slim, 43-42 edge in rebounds and an 11-7 edge on the offensive glass.

MACU will next play at No. 7-ranked Lubbock Christian on Thursday evening (Feb. 9) at 6 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
