Bethany, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels were swept in a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon (Mar. 15) by the Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm in Bethany, Okla.  SNU routed the Evangels 15-1 in the first game and then won the nightcap 7-1.

John Basnight hit a three-run homer in the first and then an RBI double in the second to help the Crimson Storm jump out to a 7-0 lead through two innings of the opener.

Basnight then homered in a seven-run sixth inning for SNU for his fifth RBI of the game.

A sacrifice fly by Shane Brinker that scored Justin Rivera in the top of the sixth accounted for the Evangels' lone run of the game.  Rivera had led off the inning with a walk and went to third on a double by Nick Whetzell.

Jake Bidelman struck out 11 batters in the win for the Crimson Storm (9-15, 5-6 SAC).

SNU again got off to a quick start in the second game, scoring four times in the bottom of the second with the assist of two errors by the Evangels (3-20, 0-11 SAC).

After an RBI single by Taylor Daniels plated Luis Martinez to get the Evangels on the board in the sixth, a run-scoring single by Ryan Williams and a two-run single from Basnight in the bottom of the sixth put the game away for the Crimson Storm.

Zach Swart recorded seven strikeouts in his seven innings of work for SNU.

The Evangels and Crimson Storm will wrap up the three-game series Saturday afternoon (Mar. 17) at 1 p.m. at James Curtis Field on the MACU campus.
