Kansas City, Mo. -- Mid-America Christian University junior guard
Charlie Shorter has been named to the NAIA All-American team as an Honorable-Mention selection, the organization announced today. This marks the second straight season the MACU Men's Basketball squad has produced an NAIA All-American, as
Brandon Williams also earned Honorable-Mention honors last year.
Shorter receives the honor after a powerful offensive season that saw him lead the Sooner Athletic Conference in scoring (22.1 ppg), while also recording 4.3 rebounds a game, 41 steals and knocking down a team-high 52 shots from three-point distance.
This award comes on the heels of Shorter being recognized as a SAC All-Conference second-team performer for the second time in his career last month.
The Dallas, Texas native also earned SAC Player of the Week honors earlier this season after leading the Evangels to three consecutive conference road victories by averaging 25.3 ppg and three boards during that span. He also shot 64 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc and 51 percent (24-of-47) overall from the field in the wins.
Shorter's offensive brilliance helped the Evangels recover from an 0-7 conference start by powering the offense with 23.1 ppg over the final 15 league games to finish with a 9-6 flourish.
The Evangels finished in a tie for the eighth spot in the SAC, but missed out on the postseason tournament due to losing a tiebreaker with Oklahoma City and Northwestern Oklahoma State.
