Shawnee, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels gave the No. 9-ranked Oklahoma Baptist Bison all they could handle through five innings, but the Bison's offense erupted in the next two innings for 10 runs and went on to a 12-4 win to complete the series sweep Saturday afternoon (Mar. 3) in Shawnee, Okla.
Luis Martinez bolstered the Evangels's offense with a 4-of-4 effort at the plate, including a triple and a single with two runs scored in the first five innings to help MACU take a 3-2 lead.
But that's where things began to fall apart as the Bison (17-2, 3-0 SAC) took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and then erupted for six more tallies in the seventh to take a commanding 12-3 lead.
Mitchell Prophet got the big seventh inning started with a lead-off homer and the Evangels (3-11, 0-6 SAC) hurt themselves with their second error in as many innings along with a pair of wild pitches in the frame.
Martinez drove in the Evangels' final run of the game with an RBI single that plated
Jon Jon Lemos in the top of the eighth.
Joe Moore also had an RBI in the game for the Evangels, scoring Martinez with a single in the second inning.
Ryan Rathbun lasted six innings for the Evangels, giving up three earned runs and striking out four.
Johnathan Christensen pitched seven innings and limited the Evangels to two runs with five strikeouts to pick up the win for OBU.
Yael Colon powered the Bison's offensive attack by going 3-of-4, with one RBI and four runs scored.
The Evangels will next play a doubleheader in Salina, Kan. against Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 6) at 1 p.m. The two schools split a doubleheader earlier this season in OKC.
