OKLAHOMA CITY - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels women's basketball program has signed Arkansas Tech University transfer Sarah Martin for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
In Martin, the Lady Evangels gain an NCAA D-II product that helped the ATU Golden Suns to three conference championships and a pair of Elite Eight appearances. Martin showed good touch from the field last season, shooting 48.7 percent (19-of-39) overall from the field and 40 percent (4-of-10) from three-point distance in seeing action in all 26 games for the Golden Suns.
"Sarah has the ability to make an immediate impact on our team and program," MACU women's basketball head coach Roman Owen said. "We are always looking for players who can stretch the floor and with her ability to do so she can step in right now and help us in that area. It is great to have a transfer who has played at a high level and understands what it takes to be successful."
Before playing at ATU, Martin helped the Muldrow (Okla.) High School Bulldogs to a conference title and a berth in the 2009 state semifinals. She was an All-State selection, Conference Player of the Year and was named to the 4A State first-team All-Tournament team. She was also selected as the SW Times Record Oklahoma Player of the Year after leading the NOAA Conference in scoring and pacing the Bulldogs in points, rebounds, assists and free-throw percentage. Martin showed her athletic versatility by also earning All-State honors in Softball.
A solid student-athlete, Martin was named to the Gulf South Conference Honor Roll at ATU as well as earning a spot on the Capitol One Academic All-District IV squad. She was also an Academic All-State selection in high school.
She is the daughter of Randy and Lisa Martin and plans on majoring in Business Administration at MACU.
