OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels wrapped up the 2012 regular season in style by completing a three-game sweep of the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles by scores of 4-0 & 4-3 Saturday afternoon (Apr. 28) at James Curtis Field. The Evangels won the series opener 9-5 after rallying from four runs down at OC.
The Evangels this time came back from three runs down to win the nightcap in dramatic fashion. Trailing 3-1 and limited to only one hit through the first six innings against OC starter Ryan Nash,
Taylor Daniels led off the seventh with a solo homer to make it a one-run game.
Three of the next four hitters then reached to load the bases with one out for senior
Joe Moore. Moore, playing in his last home game at MACU, responded with a walk-off line drive single to center to score
Justin Rivera and pinch runner
Dustin Carlsward for the game-winning runs.
The rally made a winner out of starting pitcher
Colby Crawford, who threw seven innings and allowed only two earned runs and struck out seven.
Daniel Thompson paced the Eagles with a 2-of-3 effort at the plate with an RBI.
Ryan Rathbun threw a complete game shutout in the opener, giving up only three hits with three strikeouts.
Senior
Jon Jon Lemos provided Rathbun with all the offense he needed by doubling home Moore and
Luis Martinez in the bottom of the fourth to snap a scoreless tie.
The Evangels then added a pair of valuable insurance runs in the fifth as Moore singled home Rivera to make it 3-0. Moore later scored on an error for MACU's fourth run.
Moore was 2-of-2 with an RBI, while Lemos was 1-of-2 with a pair of runs driven in.
Tanner Hessman had two of the Eagles' three hits in the first game.
The Evangels will now await the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament, which will most likely begin on Tuesday, May 8 on the campus of Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo.
