Lady Evangels Pull Out Dramatic 57-56 Win over Baker

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Adaugo Osuala scored with two seconds remaining off a pass from April Williams to give the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels a thrilling 57-56 victory in their home opener at the MACU Classic over the Baker University Wildcats Friday night (Nov. 22) inside the Gaulke Activity Center. Earlier in the Classic, Southwestern Christian University defeated Ecclesia College 82-51

Osuala's dramatic shot came after Tierra Brown split a pair at the free throw line to pull the Lady Evangels within one.

MACU trailed by as many as 11 after the Wildcats opened the second half on a 17-5 spurt that turned a one-point deficit into a 42-31 lead.

A three by Ashlee Ferguson and consecutive buckets inside from Lauren McKinney ignited an 8-0 spurt that made it a two-point game at the 8:27 mark.

But the Wildcats answered right back with a 9-2 run, sparked by five points from Rashida Simpson that stretched the edge back to 51-42 with 6:26 left.

That's when the Lady Evangels (4-1) put the clamps down defensively, out-scoring the Wildcats 15-5 the rest of the way.

A trey from Ferguson and back-to-back threes by Cheyenne Been tied the score and a bucket from Brown gave the Lady Evangels their first lead since early in the second half.

The opening half was close throughout, with the Lady Evangels finally gaining some seperation as Been hit a pair of threes for a 22-16 lead at the 6:34 mark.

The Wildcats came back with six straight to tie the score before the Lady Evangels went into the locker room with a 26-25 lead.

Been scored a team-high 15 points to go along with eight rebounds, while McKinney had a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards.  Ferguson also scored in double-figures with 14 points.

Simpson and Shea Shoemaker led the Wildcats with 11 points apiece.

MACU held a 51-48 advantage on the boards and a whopping 24-15 edge on the offensive glass.

The Lady Evangels will wrap up the MACU Classic tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 23) at 4 p.m. against Ecclesia College.
