Women's Basketball Lady Evangels Give Moeller First Career Win with Late Rally Over Tabor

Baldwin City, Kan. -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels staged a late rally to award first-year head coach Marcus Moeller his first career victory in an 87-86 win over the Tabor College Lady Jays in the final day of the Baker Classic Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2) in Baldwin City, Kan.

Trailing 82-77 with 1:49 left, the Lady Evangels made their charge back at the free-throw line.  A pair of free throws by Ashlee Ferguson followed by single freebies from Adaugo Osuala and Kelsie Dutton cut the deficit to 82-81 with 44 seconds left.

After the Lady Evangels got another defensive stop, April Williams stepped to the line and sank two more free throws to give MACU its first lead of the game with 24 seconds left.

Osuala then stretched the lead to three with two more free throws before Janelle Rust scored for the Lady Jays to cut the lead to one with nine seconds left.

Williams made two more at the stripe and when the Lady Jays had a chance to tie with a three, the Lady Evangels limited Tabor to only a second chance layup as time expired.

The Lady Jays led the entire way until the late stages, building the lead as high as 15 at 35-20 at the 6:45 mark of the first half.

MACU cut into the edge by closing the half on a 14-3 run as consecutive buckets by Lauren McKinney and Osuala made it 38-34 at the break.

Osuala led all scorers with 20 points and Ferguson chipped in with 18. Maclayn Massey scored 13 and Dutton also scored in double-figures with 10.  McKinney secured a game-high 14 rebounds for the Lady Evangels (1-1).
