Hillsdale Rallies to Spoil Evangels' Home Opener, 7-6

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Hillsdale College Saints rallied from four runs down to come back and defeat the Mid-America Christian University Evangels 7-6 in the Evangels' home opener Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 5) at James Curtis Field.

The Evangels looked to be in control when they snapped a 2-2 tie with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Taylor Daniels doubled home Z Tipton and Tanner Ward to put MACU in front and Dustin Carlsward followed that with a two-run single that plated Trent Daniels and Taylor Daniels for a 6-2 lead.

The Saints scored a run in the fifth and then jumped back in front with four runs in the sixth.  The big blow of the inning was a two-out, two-run single by pinch hitter Anthony Armstrong that scored the eventual winning runs.

MACU threatened in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded thanks to a pair Hillsdale errors, but Tipton lined out sharply to right to end the inning.

Riley Allen got the win for the Saints, lasting five innings and allowing five earned runs. Chance Griffin pitched four shutout innings and struck out six in relief to pick up the save.

The Evangels will next play a four-game series at home against Evangel University beginning on Friday, Feb. 15 with a doubleheader at noon.
