Baseball Drops two to Dakota State

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels dropped a pair of games to the Dakota State (S.D.) University Trojans in a doubleheader Friday afternoon (Mar. 1) at James Curtis Field.

The Evangels dropped a close one in the opener, losing 4-2 when the Trojans snapped a 2-2 gridlock with an RBI double by Chaz Palmer in the fourth and then added an insurance tally on a run-scoring single from Kevin Medera in the seventh.

MACU fell behind 2-0 on a two-run homer by Anyelo Roman in the first, but answered back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles from Jake Magness and Taylor Daniels.

Brett Lamb pitched six effecting innings for the Evangels, allowing four runs and striking out four.  Blaine Garriott came on in relief and threw a scoreless seventh.

Trojan starter Michael Crain got the win with five innings pitched and two runs allowed, while Michael Weber blanked the Evangels over the final two innings to pick up the save.

The nightcap once again saw the Evangels dig an early hole, as the Trojans struck for three runs in the first inning to jump out on top.

An RBI single by Z Tipton plated Trent Daniels in the third and the Evangels added another run in the fourth to make it a one-run game.

After a single by Roman made it 4-2 in the fifth, the Evangels again came within a run on an RBI groundout by Tanner Ward in the bottom of the fifth.

But the Trojans busted it open in the sixth as Palmer hit a two-run triple to key a four-run inning that made it 8-3.

DSU tacked on two more runs in the seventh before RBI singles by Taylor and Trent Daniels accounted for the Evangels' fourth and fifth runs in the bottom of the frame.

The Evangels will play again tomorrow (Mar. 2) with a single game against Sterling College (Kan.) at 11:30 a.m.
