OKLAHOMA CITY -- For the third time this season, Mid-America Christian University senior guard Charlie Shorter has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Student-Athlete of the Week, the organization released today (Mar. 20).
Shorter scored 26.7 ppg in the Evangels' three NCCAA National Tournament games that helped MACU to a fifth-place finish this past week in Winona Lake, Ind. He scored 32 in a 101-89 loss to Shorter University and then 31 to pave the way for a 91-69 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College. He then tallied 17 points in the fifth-place game, a 74-68 win over Spring Arbor University.
The awards just keep coming for Shorter, who earlier today received the school's first-ever first-team NAIA All-American selection. Those two honors are in addition to the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year, NCCAA Player of the Year and NCCAA Central Region Co-MVP he received earlier this year.
Shorter finished his incredible senior campaign by ranking second in NAIA Division I and first in the SAC in scoring (23.4 ppg).
He was also tops in the league with 2.1 steals per game and became just the fifth player in MACU history to eclipse the 2,000 career point mark, finishing with 2,271 career points.
The 6-1 Dallas, Texas native helped the Evangels earn their first-ever NAIA national ranking and averaged 31.7 points per game to lead MACU to the NCCAA Central Regional championship and an NCCAA National Tournament berth.
