Shorter and Valencia Power Evangels into NCCAA Regional Semifinals with 95-90 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan

Bartlesville, Okla. -- Senior guard Charlie Shorter finished just three points shy of his career-high with 39 points to lead the third-seeded Mid-America Christian University Evangels past the tournament host and sixth-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles 95-90 to advance to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional Semifinals Thursday evening (Mar. 7) in Bartlesville, Okla.

Shorter had plenty of help, as fellow senior guard Camilo Valencia poured in a career-high 35 points along with a career-best eight three-pointers.  Angelo Lewis also chipped in with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Tyler Woods led four Eagles in double-figures with 29 points and also pulled down nine boards.  Shawn Seymour had 25 and knocked down seven threes for OKWU.

The Eagles came out firing on all cylinders on their home floor, scoring the first 15 points of the game to put the Evangels into an early hole.

MACU charged back behind 23 first-half points from Shorter to pull within 53-50 at the break.

The Evangels then surged ahead in the second half and hit key free-throws down the stretch to seal the win.

MACU will play tomorrow night (Mar. 8) with a spot in the regional championship game on the line against the number two seed Oklahoma Christian University Eagles at 8 p.m.  The Evangels will be looking to avenge an earlier exhibition loss to the Eagles earlier this season (Dec. 6).
