Drovers Rally in Nightcap to Finish Sweep of Evangels

Chickasha, Okla. -- The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers rallied from three runs down in the second game of a doubleheader to defeat the Mid-America Christian University Evangels 7-3 in the regular season finale Sunday afternoon (Apr. 28) at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.  The Drovers also won the first game 7-1.

Taylor Daniels got the Evangels off to a good start in the nightcap with a two-run double in the first that scored Z Tipton and Trent Daniels.

After MACU starter Kory Palmer got a groundout to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the second, the Evangels jumped on top 3-0 when Taylor Daniels scored on an error that allowed Dustin Carlsward to reach base with two out in the third.

But the Drovers seized control in the bottom of the third as a two-run single by Owen Adams tied the score and Daniel Edwards singled home Austin Ardrey to put USAO in front 4-3.

Two errors led to another run in the fifth and the Drovers added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Taylor Daniels paced the Evangels with a 3-of-4 effort at the plate with two RBI, while Tipton and Trent Daniels each had two hits.  Heath Wilda was also 3-of-4 for the Drovers in the second game.

Taylor Daniels also put the Evangels on the board first in the opener with a single that scored Tipton in the top of the first.

Edwards then gave the Drovers the lead for good with a two-run single in the second and an RBI single in the third inning made it 3-1.

Wilda then drove in a run with a single to key a three-run fourth inning that stretched the lead to five runs.

Chris Fischer struck out eight in five innings with one run allowed to get the win for USAO.

The Evangels are now tentatively scheduled to face top-seeded Oklahoma City University in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday (May 1). MACU knocked off OCU 1-0 behind Christian Hill's complete game performance to salvage a game in the four-game series back on Apr. 4.
